Doula What?

Are you totally picturing a long-haired no makeup older lady wearing a frilly skirt with feather earrings? Probably wearing a scrunchie or banana clip? I sure did when I heard the word doula. I thought that meant an all natural hippie that helped you bounce on a ball while you gave birth and chanted with candles or something. But a doula is actually just someone dedicated to helping a mom through birth and postpartum life. Yeah, there are amazing certifications (like the DONA) but we all have a little doula ingrained in us, even without the fancy title. We’re Moms. Isn’t building up and helping others part of what we know how to do best? We are constantly taking care of those around us (husbands included). We work, take care of our kiddos, keep the fridge full, run errands, keep our marriage spicy, and nurture our friendships. That’s why I started this adventure. I knew giving my friends support and guidance brought me joy like nothin’ else. Because when you feel like all the peas are falling off your plate (phrase from my Mama), you need some real Mom talk to keep you sane. You need a Trailblazing Mama to talk you off the ledge and give you next steps. So here I am, The Modern Girl’s Doula. Sharing what I know to help the half crunchy, half classic chica.
